Faster sailing: To gain speed when traveling by water, always place a speedy ship. This way, if you have a large ship that’s slow, it will travel at the same speed than the fastest selected.

Build anywhere: In order to do this, you need to build silos in a chain until you are close enough to where you want to place your building. Once you build it, you can sell the silos, and keep building there.

Fast repair: Place a vehicle on a service deposit, but take the vehicle off the service deposit right after it starts repairing. Then, quickly put the vehicle back on the service deposit. Once the repair is done, quickly get the vehicle off the service deposit or you will start paying the regular price.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars coverSeven years after the last C&C game in the Tiberian series, the tiberium battles continue.

The story develops in 2047, about seventeen years after the end of the last Tiberian game. The Earth by then is almost fully destroyed.

The Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of NOD fight once more for the control of the planet. But there are some surprises when a new menace appears…

It seems that this new enemy, is not from this world. However, information doesn’t abound and details are kept top secret. It also seems that we will be able to choose from 3 campaigns as there are 2 factions.

This is the first game in the Tiberian Series developed by EA Los Angeles (EA acquired and merged Westwood into EA L.A. in 2003).
Tiberium Wars is scheduled for 2007. Once is out, we’ll upload the full review.

Command & Conquer Renegade coverCommand & Conquer: Renegade changes the whole game system we learned to love. Instead of the classic Command & Conquer “real-time strategy” (RTS) gameplay, in Renegade we will find a first-person shooter (FPS). Despite this huge difference, Westwood Studios is still behind this production.

C&C Renegade was launched only for PC, on February 26, 2002 in the United States and on March 1, 2002 in Europe.

The story tells us, from GDI commando Nick “Havoc” Parker’s point of view, about a recent kidnap of three Tiberium research experts by the Brotherhood of Nod. Therefore, our mission will be to rescue these scientists from around the world. Once the game develops a bit, the reason for the kidnap reveals: Nod has a new project called “Re-Genesis”, to create super-soldiers through extensive biochemistry experiments.

The multiplayer mode (called “Command and Conquer Mode”), is truly the most interesting aspect of Renegade. You will choose your team: GDI or Nod, good or evil. You begin with a simple base and some credits, and you will have to buy better vehicles and improve your army, in order to defeat your adversary. Clearly, the winner of the match is decided by who destroyed the other’s base (or by the highest score if the time limit ends).

The game engine was developed by Westwood too, and is called “Renegade engine” or “Westwood 3D”. To run the game properly, you will need at least: Pentium II 400 MHz, 96 MB RAM, Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, DirectX 8.1, 16 MB DirectX 8.1 compatible video card, DirectX compatible sound card, 950 MB hard disk space, 4x CD-ROM drive.

Command & Conquer: Tiberian SunIn 1999, the long wait ended. Four years passed since the first Command & Conquer in the Tiberian Series, with the online version Sole Survivor in the middle. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, for PC, made its appearance.

It’s the direct sequel to Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. It takes place in the 2030’s, about thirty years after the end of Tiberian Dawn.

The GDI (Global Defense Initiative) and the Brotherhood of Nod fight once again, and the world is at stake.

The world as we know it has vanished. There aren’t any nations left, just some areas monitored by the GDI. Tiberium, the extraterrestrial fluid that landed on Earth a few decades ago, is again the responsible for all this. Or, actually, how some humans handle it for their own evil purposes. Because of the Tiberium menace, many people migrate to the poles, where it hasn’t been propagated as much yet.

You can play for the GDI, or in support of the Brotherhood.

As a GDI member, you will be Commander McNeil (played by Michael Biehn and you will receive orders from General James Solomon (played by the great James Earl Jones).

As a member of originally Kane’s Brotherhood of Nod (Kane is played by Joseph D. Kucan), you will take control of Anton Slavik (played by Frank Zagarino). He will escape from his imminent execution, take down Hassan (current leader of Nod) and become the new leader of the criminal organization. The second tiberium war begins…

It was published by EA Games, it contains 2 CD-ROMs and the system requirements are: Pentium II 166 MHz, 32 MB RAM, Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, 2 MB PCI graphics card, DirectX compatible sound card, 200 MB hard disk space, 4x CD-ROM drive.

Command and Conquer: Sole Survivor coverTwo years after the first Command & Conquer, now mainly known as “Tiberian Dawn”, Sole Survivor appeared.

This 1997 Westwood game had good intentions. If you have an amazing strategy game, you HAVE to make it online. But there were many flaws…

The main issue is that you don’t control a big army with resources, but a single unit. You select this unit before the game starts, and they include: recon bikes, artillery, infantry, tanks and dinosaurs.

To add some diversity to the game, Westwood included three game modes: Free-for-all, Capture the flag and Football. In Free-for-all, basically you have to kill anything that moves because it’s everyone against everyone. In Capture the flag, there’s a bit more strategy involved. You have to obtain the enemy’s flag first, accessing their base and therefore carefully destroying their home units. Finally, there’s Football. It’s pretty much like capture the flag but it uses undefended goals instead of bases making it a quicker mode.

For some, Sole Survivor didn’t have much to do with the original concept of the game. This sort of deathmatch-style (supported for up to 50 players in a match) has little strategy, letting down many followers. It’s not a bad game, you just have to know what you are buying, a quick simple multiplayer game.

Sole Survivor hasn’t got a monthly charge and the server and usability from Westwood are very good.

Unlimited Firestorm Wall: Completely charge your Firestorm Wall and turn it on. Then, before it turns off or runs out of power, sell or turn off your power plants until the message On Hold appears in the Firestorm Icon. You will be granted an unlimited firestorm wall that will last until you build or turn on your power plants. This trick only works with the unpatched version.

Hijack vehicles: To hijack a vehicle take a Mutant Hijacker into a city. Then, find a car, truck or a bus and select it. This will give you control over this vehicle, being able to use it as transportation.

Quick kill: To kill a Cyborg Commando with a single hit you must have the ability to build a GDI Firestorm Wall Generator and Firestorm Wall sections. Develop your base until you can build a Firestorm Wall and sections. Then, build Firestorm Walls in the positions where enemies can access your base. If a Cyborg Commando is near one of these new structures, turn on the Firestorm Wall Generator to finish them at once.

Tiberium veins: These units work great for scouting vein areas, but bare in mind that they won’t have any effect on the following enemy units: NOD Buggy, Wolverine, Hover MLRS, infantry and Harvesters.

Hint: If you see crates disappearing around you, there’s a cloaked enemy
nearby.

Hint: Make a mental note of the location of green healing crates; retreat back
to them when you’re damaged.

Command and Conquer coverCommand & Conquer is why you are reading this page.

It was launched in 1995 by Westwood Studios. Its complete name is “Command & Conquer. Tiberian Dawn.” and it’s often referred as “Tiberian Dawn” (the subtitle) to differenciate this first game from the whole series.

The game falls into the RST category, this is “Real-Time Strategy”. It’s considered as one of the most important games in this amazing genre and it obviously had great success among gamers.

The plot of the game is, at first sight, quite simple: Good vs. Evil. The good side is a special group organized by the United Nations, called Global Defense Initiative. The evil side is a terrorist group who call themselves Brotherhood of Nod.

Let’s explain the story a bit more. These events take place in 1995 (conveniently the same year the game was launched). A meteorite crashes at the River Tiber, Italy, secreting a weird green liquid. This substance quickly gets the name of “Tiberium”, because of the location where it first appeared. This liquid is very dangerous if it falls in the wrong hands and yes, you guessed correctly, it does. The Brotherhood of Nod starts researching and processing this discovery, gaining access to almost half of it. Its leader, Kane, uses these funds to form a great army. After a series of bombings, The United Nations sends the Global Defense Initiative to protect the Earth.

Here’s the interesting part. You will be able to choose which group you take control of. You can play for the United Nations’ GDI, or become a member of the evil Brotherhood. This means basically twice the fun, because you will have twice the missions. Also, besides playing different missions depending what team you pick, your army will change. GDI forces and Brotherhood’s have different units, with distinct strong and weak points, making the game really fun and varied.

Command & Conquer was presented for several platforms: PC (MS-DOS, Windows), Apple Macintosh, Sony PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn. It contains 2 CD-Roms and the system requirements for the PC version are: 486 DX2 66MHz, 8 MB RAM, MS-DOS 5.0, VGA video card, Sound Blaster compatible sound card and 30 MB hard disk space.
